Military officials say Maj. Nidal Hasan will be charged with 13 counts of premeditated murder, MSNBC reports. Hasan will be tried in military court, and prosecutors will be able to seek the death penalty. Additional charges may be filed, but the murder counts are the most serious. The Senate has opened an investigation into the massacre, with Sens. Joe Lieberman and Susan Collins planning to hold hearings on the matter next week.
