Click here to visit the new home of Politics Daily!Sarah Palin has five goals as she prepares for a three-week 14 state tour to promote her book, "Going Rogue," says Politico. The website lists them as reconnecting with her base, payback to her critics within the McCain campaign, sticking it to the media, putting the Republican establishment on notice as she did with her intervention for a conservative candidate in an upstate New York congressional race, and recasting her image as a serious figure.
Politico quotes Marjorie Dannenfelser, a Palin backer who heads the Susan B. Anthony list (a group that supports candidates who oppose abortion rights) as saying, "This is going to help build her machine for whatever she intends to do with it."
As for payback, pro-Palin Republicans are hoping she doesn't stoop to a public war with former McCain staffers. GOP political strategist Mary Matalin told Politico if a motive for the book is to keep Palin on the political stage, "it would be stupid to make it a score settling book. She's hopefully going to answer some of those things and look forward."
The New York Times, in a book review by Michiko Kakutani, isn't buying five reasons. Her review is headlined "Memoir is PayBack to McCain's Campaign."
The Huffington Post today has excerpts from the book, particularly on Palin's contentious relaionship with former McCain campaign manager Steve Schmidt.
The Daily Beast is offering up its "top ten" Palin book leaks.
