Biden Overtakes Castle in Delaware Senate Poll

    Posted:

Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden has taken the lead for the first time in a match-up with nine-term Republican Rep. Mike Castle for the seat vacated by Biden's father Joe when he became Vice President, according to a Susquehanna Polling and Research poll conducted Nov. 10-15. The margin of error is 3.36 points.

Biden leads Castle 45 percent to 40 percent with 6 percent expressing another preference and 8 percent undecided. Castle draws somewhat more support from fellow Republicans (72 percent) than Biden does from Democrats (65 percent).

Castle leads among independents by 42 percent to 37 percent with 10 percent undecided, a gap that Biden has closed since the earlier poll when Castle led by 55 percent to 28 percent.

The pollster said that among "super voters" - those who vote in all elections - Biden and Castle are in a dead heat with Biden leading 43 percent to 42 percent. More infrequent voters favor Biden by 49 percent to 38 percent, indicating the importance of turnout and whether a campaign by him could bring out the greater number of voters that participate in presidential years, something Democratic gubernatorial candidates failed to do this year in New Jersey and Virginia.

Biden has not announced his candidacy although he has said he is considering it and his father has hinted that he would run.
