Sarah Palin to Kick Off Media Tour With Oprah Interview

After a weekend packed with reviews and excerpts from her new memoir, Sarah Palin will step fully back into the national spotlight Monday when she appears on "The Oprah Winfrey Show." The high-profile interview will be Palin's first major sit-down since her ill-fated talk with Katie Couric in September 2008, a subject that comes up in today's pre-recorded interview.

In promos for the program, which airs mid-afternoon in most American markets, Palin and Oprah discuss the Couric interview, the VP candidate's beefs with the McCain campaign and her public feud with Levi Johnston. In additional clips posted on Oprah's Web site, the two also talk about Tina Fey's impersonation of Palin on "Saturday Night Live" and the darkest moments of the 2008 campaign.

Starting Tuesday, Palin will appear for several segments on ABC's "20/20," where she is questioned by Barbara Walters about her daughter's sexual activity and her presidential ambitions.

"It's a fascinating modern media phenomenon, someone who's said to be such an irrelevant, out-of-office non-factor that her critics can't wait to talk endlessly about, as if she really does matter," Andrew Malcolm wrote on the Los Angeles Times' political blog. "The modern public road to the White House usually starts with a book. Palin, however, has a lengthy image rehab road to travel first in the minds of many Americans."
