Jerry Brown Raises Big Money in Hollywood

California Attorney General Jerry Brown has not said whether he's running for governor, but that isn't stopping him from attending big-ticket fundraisers in his honor.

Brown, a Democrat, is in Los Angeles Wednesday to attend a party with top Hollywood names, including Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg and David Geffen. The event, hosted by former talent manager Sandy Gallin, could bring in more than $1 million for Brown, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Brown, 71, hasn't officially announced his intention to run, but he appears to building a campaign war chest a month after the only Democratic candidate, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, dropped out. The primary is in June 2010.

The party is listed as having 27 co-hosts.

"Every one of the co-chairs is either writing [a check for] and or raising $50,000," entertainment industry consultant Andy Spahn told the Times.

Other attendees include Oracle Chief Executive Larry Ellison and Netflix founder Reed Hastings.

Brown served as California's governor from 1975 to 1983.

The Republican race is already shaping up with former congressman and state budget director Tom Campbell competing with former Ebay chief Meg Whitman and Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner.
