Alexandra Kerry, an actress and filmmaker and the oldest daughter of Sen. John Kerry, was arrested in Hollywood Wednesday night on suspicion of driving under the influence, the Associated Press reports. Officer Bruce Borihanh says she was booked at the Hollywood police station and was held for about five hours. She was released at about 5:30 a.m. after posting $5,000 bail.
Kerry co-produced the 2008 film Be Like Others, a documentary about young Iranian men who undergo sex changes, and directed 2004's The Last Full Measure, about a little girl whose father goes to war. She is currently working on a project called Hazards of Good Breeding.
Update: Jodi Seth, a spokeswoman for Sen. Kerry, issued this statement: "Alexandra Kerry was pulled over for an expired registration and was released after the results of a breathalyzer test at the police station were under the legal limit. Senator Kerry supports his daughter and will have no further comment on a private matter."
The AP reports that a driver with a blood alcohol level below the legal limit can still be charged if police believe he or she is driving dangerously.
