Another national survey -- this one from Public Policy Polling -- is showing President Obama below the 50 percent job approval mark, with 49 percent approving of his performance, 46 percent disapproving and 5 percent undecided.

A Quinnipiac University poll, conducted Nov. 9-16 and released Wednesday, had 48 percent approving Obama's performance while 42 percent disapproved.

Asked to grade Obama's performance report card-style, 30 percent gave him an "A," 18 percent a "B," 7 percent a "C," 19 percent a "D," and 26 percent an "F." The poll was conducted Nov. 13-15.

Fifty-two percent oppose Obama's health care plan while 40 percent support it, with 8 percent expressing no opinion. Independents are particularly strong in their opposition, opposing the plan by 58 percent to 36 percent with 6 percent expressing no opinion.

Another Quinnipiac poll, released Thursday, found much the same. Fifty-one percent disapproved of the health care reform plan compared to 35 percent who approved, with 14 percent undecided. Independents opposed it by 57 percent to 29 percent with 14 percent undecided.

PPP's Dean Debnam said, "This is the first time President Obama's approval rating has dropped below 50% in our polling. It does seem that the health care issue is hurting him some with independents who voted for him last year."

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. Please read our Help and Feedback section for more info.
