Obama to Deploy 30,000 Troops to Afghanistan in Next Six Months
President Obama has decided to deploy 30,000 new troops to Afghanistan within the next six months, the New York Times reports. The deployment will be faster than Obama had previously planned, as earlier timelines called for troop increases to occur incrementally over the next year. At the end of his nearly three-month review of U.S. strategy in Afghanistan, Obama concluded that the situation required "more, sooner," and decided to increase the total American force to 100,000, starting immediately.
Obama will formally announce his strategy for Afghanistan in a speech Tuesday night at the United States Military Academy in West Point, N.Y.
The new American troops will focus on protecting population centers in areas where the Taliban has been strongest in Afghanistan, including Kandahar in the south and Kohr in the east. U.S. forces will pair with Afghan security forces in an effort to train Afghan fighters to protect the country themselves.

He wants to show real progress fast so he can start pulling people out before the November elections. Everything he does is politically motivated in my mind. One thing I will say is, after 10 months in office it's about time he touched the third rail and felt the heat. So far all he has been doing is feeding the socialist animal.

We finally have a president that will focus on Afghanistan and not trying to clean-up his daddy's mess in Iraq. A president that got advice from all the people he could and then made a decision. A decision that bush/cheney oligarchy would not. There's no oil pipline in Afghanistan. Obama promised us to get out of Iraq, Afghanistan is a rightous war, but it has to be doen correctly. History shows us that only one county has ever conqured Afghanistan and that was Alexander the Great and the Macedonians.

Why from the military place and not the Oval Office????? Hmmmmm????? Just another "act" set up w/props. - try to blame the Bush Admin. somehow for why he HAS to do this horrible thing....try to have it "both ways" somehow.....yes, he's so much like that poster of the "Joker" a few months back. So true. Poor man. I feel sorry for him - he's so deluded but unfortunately he's our President. This seems now to be an ok war. Strange since we listened to OB use the war as a nail against the republicans which if fine but he also promised to bring the troops home as soon as he was elected It has been since the demos took over both houses and more so since Obama got elected a democratic war they vote to fund it so the war goes on. Does anyone remember that it was the demos that wanted to start up the draft again or was that a scare tactic . Get smart america we have been had and it will get worse

Let see now. It was in Afganastan and Pakistan where the terrorist formed and calculated 911. George W. Started to go to Afganastan then took his eye off the ball and charged into Iraq. The axis of evil, remember that? Never did I hear Afanastan or Pakistan in that equation. But where oh where was Bin Laden. Not in Freaking Iraq that was for sure. So now Obama is focused on the real war and who is now complaining. Wait till he finds Bin Laden the see what the Republican's have to say.
