In a meeting that lasted over six hours and ran late Monday night, the judiciary committee of the New Jersey state senate narrowly approved a bill that would grant same-sex couples the right to marry, PolitickerNJ reports. The bill cleared the committee, 7-6, and will now be deliberated in the full senate beginning on Thursday.

The bill's passage is far from certain as the vote is expected to be close and will likely not follow partisan lines. Two Democrats on the judiciary committee voted against the measure and one Republican supported it.
