White House Pressures Pakistan to Crack Down on Taliban

The White House is warning Pakistan to do more to fight the Taliban inside its borders and keep the insurgents from carrying out attacks in Afghanistan.
At a meeting last month, administration officials told Pakistani leaders if they don't turn up the heat on the Taliban, the U.S. will carry out more missions on Pakistan's side of the border, the New York Times reported.
The meeting came before President Obama announced the Afghanistan troop surge. Gen. James Jones, the national security adviser, and White House counterterrorism chief John Brennan met in Pakistan with the heads of that country's military and its intelligence agency, according to the Times.
The Pakistanis were told the U.S. is prepared to take military action against the Taliban in Pakistan, including expanded Predator drone attacks and raids by Special Operations forces.
