Former Republican Rep. Scott McInnis is leading first-term Democratic Gov. Bill Ritter 48 percent to 40 percent, with 4 percent preferring some other candidate and 7 percent undecided, according to a Rasmussen Reports poll conducted Dec. 10. The margin of error is 4.5 points.
Ritter, like many other governors, has suffered from the impact of the recession on his state's economy and budget.
McInnis is being challenged on the Republican side by businessman Dan Maes, a favorite of many Tea Party activists.
