Missouri's Democratic Secretary of State, Robin Carnahan, is in a statistical tie with Republican Rep. Roy Blunt in the race to succeed GOP Sen. Kit Bond who decided not to seek a fifth term, according to a Rasmussen Reports poll conducted Dec. 15

Carnahan leads 46 percent to 44 percent with 4 percent preferring someone else and 6 percent undecided. In September, the two were tied at 46 percent each.

Blunt is seen favorably by 50 percent of voters and unfavorably by 43 percent with 7 percent undecided. Carnahan is viewed favorably by 51 percent and unfavorably by 43 percent with 6 percent undecided.

Missourians oppose the health care reform plan advocated by President Obama and congressional Democrats by 57 percent to 40 percent. Rasmussen says Carnahan has a big lead among those who favor the health proposal and a 2-to-1 edge among voters who are only somewhat opposed to the plan. But Blunt has a big lead among the 47 percent who say they "strongly" oppose the plan.

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. Please read our Help and Feedback section for more info.
