Continuing a string of surveys showing public opinion running against passage of health care reform, 56 percent of Americans oppose the Senate bill based on what they know about it, while 42 percent support it with 2 percent undecided, according to a CNN/Opinion Research poll conducted Dec. 16-20.

However, that number is down from two weeks ago when the margin of opposition was 61 percent to 36 percent.

Thirty-eight percent believe the bill would change things for the worse as far as the care and insurance available to most Americans, 26 percent said it wouldn't change anything while 34 percent believe it would change things for the better.

When it comes to their own families, 39 percent said the Senate measure would result in no change, 37 percent said the change would be for the worse and 22 percent said it would be for the better.
