The Obama family will be traveling to Hawaii for their annual holiday visit to the president's native state -- though the trip is likely to be delayed so Obama is in Washington for the Senate's final health care vote on Christmas Eve.
In an interview taped yesterday, radio host Tom Joyner asked Obama when the family would be leaving for Hawaii.
"You know, it depends on how soon the Senate can make that last vote on health care. It may end up being Christmas Eve. But we are on the brink of something historic here, and I want to make sure that I'm here to solve any last-minute problems, let's put it that way," Obama said.
Earlier this month, before the Senate scheduled its final vote on the reform bill, Mrs. Obama told Oprah Winfrey that the family would celebrate Christmas and New Year's in Hawaii.
"We're going to spend the holidays in Hawaii, as we always do, and with probably the same friends and family that we always see, and the girls look forward to that," she said.
The Obama family celebrated the holidays last year in Hawaii, while Obama was president-elect.
