Hillary Clinton Edges Sarah Palin as Most Admired Woman

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton narrowly topped Sarah Palin in a Gallup survey to determine the most admired woman in America, according to results released Wednesday. But before anyone trumpets it as a resounding affirmation, it's worth noting that neither woman drew impressive numbers: just 16 percent of the 1,025 adults polled nationwide picked Clinton, and 15 percent chose Palin.

Talk show host Oprah Winfrey was third with 8 percent, edging first lady Michelle Obama, who got 7 percent.

Clinton has been named the most admired woman by the poll 14 times now, going back to her years as first lady. Laura Bush in 2001 and Mother Teresa in 1995 and 1996 are the only other women to claim the top spot since Clinton first assumed it.

President Obama won the Gallup vote as most admired man, with 30 percent. Former President George W. Bush came in second with 4 percent, and former South African President Nelson Mandela got 3 percent.
