Former ABC veteran and "Nightline" founder Ted Koppel is in negotiations to return to the network as the host of "This Week," Politico reports. ABC News executives say no offer has been made, but broadcast insiders said Koppel could host the Sunday program three times a month. The fourth Sunday would rotate among reporters from the network's Washington bureau."We are in the middle of the process, and I will not comment on the specifics of whom we are and whom we are not talking to," ABC News President David Westin told Politico in an e-mail. "I'm considering a number of alternatives. I will pull back the veil to the limited degree of telling you – for the benefit of your readers – that just about every specific that you have is false."
Koppel's friends say he would most like to be secretary of state, but that he might consider the ABC position an acceptable alternative. The anchor spot on "This Week" opened recently when George Stephanopoulos became co-host of ABC's "Good Morning America."
