The two Republican hopefuls to succeed retiring GOP Sen. Jim Bunning in Kentucky remain out in front over Democratic contenders seeking the job, according to a Rasmussen Reports poll conducted Jan. 6.

Secretary of State Trey Grayson and eye surgeon Rand Paul, son of Texas Rep. Ron Paul, both lead two Democrats -- Lt. Gov. Daniel Mongiardo and Attorney General Jack Conway.

Paul is ahead of Mongiardo 49 percent to 35 percent with 3 percent preferring someone else and 13 percent undecided. Paul also bests Conway by 46 percent to 38 percent with 4 percent preferring someone else and 12 percent undecided.

Grayson leads Mongiardo 44 percent to 37 percent with 8 percent preferring another candidate and 11 percent undecided and is ahead of Conway 45 percent to 35 percent with 7 percent preferring someone else and 12 percent undecided.

Both Republicans also led their potential Democratic foes in a Public Policy Polling survey last month. PPP had Paul with a comfortable lead over Grayson in the contest for the GOP nomination.
