Obama Ratings Inch Up on Handling Terrorism, Fall on Domestic Issues

President Obama's approval rating for his handling of terrorism rose slightly from the period before the failed Christmas Day attack on a U.S. airliner, but his handling of the economy and health care have continued to decline, although slightly, according to a Gallup poll conducted Jan. 8-10.

Forty-nine percent approve of Obama's performance on the terrorism situation, compared to 46 percent who do not. Forty-seven percent disapproved and 45 percent approved before the attempted bombing.

On the economy, 56 percent disapprove of Obama's performance compared to 40 percent who approve, an increase from the 53-44 percent disapproval margin in the previous poll.

Fifty-eight percent disapprove of his handling of health care, compared to 37 percent who approve, an increase in the disapproval margin of 53-40 percent in the last survey.
