Kay Bailey Hutchison in their race for the GOP gubernatorial nomination, with former Wharton County GOP chairwoman Debra Medina getting 12 percent, according to a Rasmussen Reports poll conducted Jan. 17. Eleven percent are undecided.
Perry had led 46 percent to 35 percent in November. Only Medina, a Libertarian who may have appeal to Tea Party voters, showed some movement, improving on her single-digit standing in Rasmussen's last poll.
Perry and Hutchison match up about the same against Houston Mayor Bill White in a general election contest. Perry leads White 50 percent to 40 percent with 4 percent preferring another candidate and 6 percent undecided. Hutchison leads him 52 percent to 37 percent with 4 percent preferring someone else and 8 percent undecided. White leads Medina 44 percent to 38 percent with 5 percent preferring someone else and 13 percent undecided.
