After admitting Thursday that he fathered Rielle Hunter's daughter, John Edwards went to Haiti to help with earthquake relief efforts. Edwards landed in Port-au-Prince Thursday afternoon with a group of relief workers and doctors who brought supplies and medicine in an effort, as he put it, to "help in whatever way we can," according to CBS News. When asked about his announcement earlier in the day that Quinn Hunter is his daughter, he responded, "I've said what I have to say for now and I'm here to help people."

Wearing a blue t-shirt , with his hair blowing in the wind, Edwards told CBS:
"We're going to do a variety of things. We're gonna get our intelligence, make sure we know where the medicine needs to go, which facilities can do the most good, where our other supplies – generators, food, water, water puriiers -- where they can go and be distributed in the best way."
According to CBS, Edwards contacted the White House earlier and offered to go to Haiti, but the White House did not respond to him.

Meanwhile, in North Carolina, estranged wife Elizabeth Edwards seemed to be looking for privacy. Her personal Facebook page, which is under her full name -- Elizabeth Anania Edwards – had a very active "wall," but it was removed on Thursday. Edwards' Facebook page was visible until Wednesday to a friend of mine, who has four friends in common with Elizabeth Edwards. (The default setting on many privacy sections of Facebook makes certain areas visible to "friends of friends.")

My friend reported that as of Wednesday, Elizabeth Edwards had 39 friends on her page, including her two daughters, Cate and Emma Claire. "Her daughter [Cate] even made a funny comment about her being her friend on FB," my friend told me about the page.

Elizabeth Edwards spoke by phone to an AP reporter about her husband's bombshell announcement, saying, "I think John feels relieved this is behind him, I'm pretty sure, and I think our whole family feels relieved, you know? That's really the sum total of it. "

Asked about a report by NBC that the Edwards are separated, Elizabeth Edwards responded, "I'm not going to talk about our marital status."

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. Please read our Help and Feedback section for more info.
