I think the only shock to most is that Edwards' affair was with a woman. lol And he will forever be remembered for berating the Clinton's behavior in the presidential campaign... a lying hypocrite politician of the highest order.

Anne, the difference is that it's only Newt's liberal enemies who speculated that he screwed around on his wife. And he waited until she was recovering before he let her know he wanted a divorce. That being said, It's sad that liberals stand up and march in lock-step to back other liberals who lie and cheat. Clinton, the only US president ever known to have committed perjury, got to remain president. Even Edwards still gets downplayed. Sure, there is evil on both sides. But, fictional stories of less gravity regarding conservatives get more media attention than anything a liberal does.

If you look throughout history, most of the politicians (and movie stars) had affairs. The history channel was suggesting that Lincoln was gay!! Washington, Franklin, and Jefferson, the fathers of our country, were heavy drinkers, smokers, and had sex parties and affairs. The difference is that back then, people were quiet about it, now they humiliate the person and their family, and put the family through hell, not just the person who committed adultery. Adultery is not against the law, it's personal between the husband and the wife. Why make the whole family suffer the consequences just to make headlines?

And to say he wasn't a serious contender is ridiculous. He was in the top three contenders in a field of 8 or 9 and, had he wished, he could have again been a running mate - prior to the revelations of his infidelity.

Sex tape or not (and that really would be the perfect hat trick, would it not? - moving him into a league with folks like Paris Hilton), a guy who you folks were ready to put one heartbeat away from the highest office in the nation has turned out to be one of the sleaziest of political sleaze-balls of all time.

For all the conjecture about Palin, nothing compares to this - precisely because it's not conjecture. It's very, very real. And you guys can't sweep your gullibility under the rug.
