James O'Keefe Released on Bond, Ordered to Live With Parents Until February Hearing

James O'Keefe, the 25-year-old conservative filmmaker who was arrested this week in connection with a plot to tamper with phone lines in Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu's New Orleans office, is out of jail on $10,000 bond, Talking Points Memo reports. The judge ordered O'Keefe to live with his parents until a preliminary hearing set for Feb. 13.

O'Keefe's parents live in New Jersey and have not said much about the arrest. O'Keefe's father told the Associated Press that he was confident the alleged plot was "poor judgment ... but not much more." O'Keefe's only comment came through Twitter, where he wrote, "I am a journalist. The truth shall set me free."

O'Keefe came to nationwide attention last year for a series of filmed sting operations at ACORN offices across the country. He dressed as a pimp, and with the help of a female friend, recorded ACORN employees offering tax advice for those interested in starting prostitution rings.
