Capitol Hill Bureau Chief
Scott Brown will be sworn in to the U.S. Senate on Thursday afternoon, an aide to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid confirmed to
The Hill. "Once we get his certificate we expect to swear him in [Thursday] afternoon as early as 5 o'clock, which is earlier than he suggested," Jim Manley told the paper.
Brown was scheduled to be sworn in next week, but on Wednesday asked Massachusetts officials to send his certification documents to Washington as soon as possible.
When Brown is sworn in, he will become the 41st Republican in the Senate and will bring an end to the Democrats' filibuster-proof majority of 60 seats.
Our New Approach to Comments
In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers –
a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around.
