A new
Rasmussen Reports poll in New Hampshire confirms what surveys have consistently been showing which is that the state's Republican Attorney General Kelly Ayotte has the best chance of the candidates in the GOP primary field to beat Democratic Rep. Paul Hodes in the race for the Senate seat being left open by the Judd Gregg.
Ayotte leads Hodes 46 percent to 39 percent with 3 percent preferring some other candidate and 13 percent undecided. The margin of error is 4.5 points and the poll was conducted Feb. 10.
Hodes leads lawyer Ovide Lamontagne 44 percent to 38 percent with 4 percent preferring someone else and 13 percent undecided.
Businessman William Binnie is in a statistical tie with Hodes, leading him 42 percent to 41 percent with 3 percent preferring another candidate and 13 percent undecided.
This is pretty much in line with a
University of New Hampshire poll conducted Jan. 27-Feb. 3 and a
Daily Kos/Research 2000 poll conducted Feb. 1-3, although with the UNH poll Hodes had a small lead over Binnie. The Rasmussen poll did not include businessman Jim Bender, who Hodes led 36 percent to 27 percent with 35 percent undecided in the UNH survey.

Our New Approach to Comments
In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers –
a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around.
