Continuing a romantic tradition begun last lear, the Republican National Committee has revived GOPValentine.com, featuring electronic love notes poking fun at Democrats like President Obama, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and Al Franken. Reid, Speaker of the House Pelosi and Obama are featured in a card knocking the Democrats' efforts to revive the struggling economy. It reads: "Please Accept This Valentine's Card, In Place Of A job."
The e-missives are part of a fundraising campaign by the RNC. Senders are encouraged to make online contributions from $10 to $100, but donations are not required. The messages -- there are 18 to choose from -- can be sent to 20 people at a time.
More than 172,424 messages (and counting) have been e-mailed, according to the Web site funded by the Republican National Committee.
Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano gets skewered for her remarks after the attempted Christmas day underwear bombing: "If You Received This Card, The System Worked."
Another e-card has Reid wishing "A Happy Valentine's Day, In Any Dialect," a reference to the Senate Majority Leader's comments during the campaign that Obama doesn't speak with a "Negro dialect."
Even Tareq and Michaele Salahi are teased. The White House gatecrashers are pictured in the now-famous photo with Vice President Joe Biden. It says, "Everyone's Invited, This Valentine's Day."
One with Franken refers to when he interrupted Joe Lieberman on the Senate floor: "In My Capacity As The Senator From Minnesota, I Object To This Valentine's Card."
Last year's targets included former Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich and the then-new economic stimulus package: "How Do I Love Thee Taxpayer, Let Me Count The $819 Billion Ways."
