Actor, former senator and onetime presidential candidate Fred Thompson has something else to add to his resume: memoirist. Thompson, 67, has penned "Teaching the Pig to Dance," an account of his childhood in Lawrenceburg, Tenn., that will be released in May by Crown Forum.
"There is an old saying that teaching the pig to dance is a fruitless endeavor," Thompson
told Politico in an e-mail. "It is a waste of your time and it irritates the pig. That was probably how my parents, teachers, coaches and townsfolk felt about me."
Thompson has been off the national radar since his failed presidential run in 2008, though he's creeping back onto it. He and his wife, Jeri, host a radio talk show that's now carried by 150 stations, and he's been cast in three movies in the last year, including one about Secretariat, the race horse.
He also campaigned for Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman, who lost in the upstate New York special congressional election last fall.
