Campaigning for Colorado Sen. Michael Bennet, President Obama admitted Thursday he's distracted a lot these days. It seems Obama is frequently checking his BlackBerry for results from the Winter Olympics in Vancouver,
The Hill newspaper reports.
The president ticked off the names of several medal winners from Colorado, saying he checks for results in Canada every half-hour or so using his favorite hand-held device. "We are cheering for you every day," he assured the nation's athletes competing in Vancouver.
He also had time for politics at the
fundraising event in Denver. Obama portrayed Bennet as an outsider, still a wee bit green to politics. Bennet was appointed to fill the vacancy created when Obama appointed Ken Salazar secretary of the interior; he's now running for a full six-year term.
"He hasn't learned the best way to keep your poll numbers up is just to smile and wave and pretend you're doing something and not really doing anything that might offend anybody," Obama said of the candidate. "He hasn't perfected the seven-second sound bite. He's never even made a TV ad. Heaven forbid. And he's facing an election in a tough political climate."
