[A primer: Annie Groer's recent piece in Politics Daily reports that Sally Quinn, wife of the Washington Post's revered former executive editor, Ben Bradlee, has aggravated tensions in their family by scheduling the wedding of their son on the same day as the long-planned wedding of Bradlee's eldest grandchild. Quinn, who writes extensively about social and moral matters for the Post, explains that this was either an innocent oops or all her 88-year-old husband's fault. Reaction includes this and this and this. And this:]An Ode to Sal

If I were of the Catholic faith
Jesus, surely, would not laugh
At all things Sally Quinn
It must be wrong to watch with glee,
"The Hostess" come undone
But what of her supporters?
Well, alas ... there's not a one
Her husband's old (I mean, he's OLD)
His clout is on the wane
She's made her son a debutante
Which puts him under strain
She loves her future d-i-l
(She bought herself a pal!)
It only took a Georgetown house
From Uncle Ben & Sal
Her life is odd, to say the least
Tho write away she does
But if the posters are correct
She's thought of as a "was."
She writes of Parties, and of Faith
To educate the masses
But since her introspection's nil
She's lumped with horses' asses
The ones who feel that they've "arrived"
The soi disant elite
The problem is that social climbs
Are never very neat
They leave a trail of great ill will
(It's never very pretty)
And that is why the current storm
Has many people giddy
Her inner loony went too far
Revealing spite and pride
The thing that finally done her in
Was, well ... "Here Come the Bride."
She's kind of up against it now
And likely feeling blue.
I wonder what things might have been
If only old Ben knew ....
