The wife and adult daughter of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid have been involved in a serious car accident in Washington, his office confirmed Thursday evening.

Landra Reid, the senator's wife, and Lana, his daughter, were both injured when a semi-truck rear-ended their car. Both are being treated at a local hospital with serious, but not life-threatening injuries.

A Reid spokesman, Jon Summers, said that Landra Reid had suffered a broken neck, a broken back and a broken nose and that Lana Reid had sustained a neck injury and facial lacerations.

"Both Mrs. Reid and Lana are conscious, can feel their extremities," Summers said. "Senator Reid has been to the hospital and appreciates the support he and his family are receiving from Nevadans and his colleagues in the Senate."
