GOP's Vitter Has Big Lead Over Democrat Melancon in La. Senate Race

Republican Sen. David Vitter continues to hold a big lead over Democratic Rep. Charlie Melancon in his bid for re-election in Louisiana, according to a Rasmussen Reports poll conducted March 10.

Vitter is ahead 57 percent to 34 percent with 3 percent preferring another candidtae and 6 percent undecided. That's about the same margin as last month.

While Vitter's overall favorability rating with voters is 63 percent, only 21 percent see him "very favorably." Melancon is seen unfavorably by 44 percent comapred to 43 percent who see him unfavorably, and only 14 percent see him "very favorably."

Vitter gets the support of 82 percent of fellow Republicans while Melancon gets only 65 percent of Democrats. Voters unaffiliated with either party prefer Vitter by more than 3-to-1.
