If Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, trailing badly in his race for the GOP Senate nomination, decided to run as an independent, his Republican rival Marco Rubio would win a three-way race with Crist and Democrat Kendrick Meek, according to a
Rasmussen Reports poll conducted March 19-20.
Rubio leads, 42 percent to 25 percent for Meek and 22 percent for Crist, with 11 percent undecided.
That's a slightly different result from a
Public Policy Polling survey conducted March 5-8, which also had Rubio on top, with 34 percent, but Crist in second at 27 percent and Meek at 25 percent.
Rasmussen says 66 percent of Republicans would support Rubio in a three-way race, with Crist getting 20 percent of GOP votes. Crist would get 21 percent of Democratic votes. Rubio leads among unaffiliated voters with 47 percent.
The Florida GOP primary is Aug. 24.

Our New Approach to Comments
In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers –
a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around.
