Add television host to Sarah Palin's long-and-getting-longer resume. An Alaska-themed show shopped around by the former governor and reality TV superproducer Mark Burnett has been picked up by cable's Discovery channel, Variety reported. The show is not political, but a kind of docudrama about Palin's adopted home state, according to Variety:
Earlier this month, Harper Collins announced that Palin will write a second book, a "celebration of American virtues and strengths." Her first title, "Going Rogue: An American Life," has sold more than 2.2 million copies, according to the publishing house."Sarah Palin's Alaska" will center on interesting characters, traditions and attractions in the 49th state -- with the ex-candidate for vice president as a guide. Burnett and Palin pitched the show to all four major networks -- but given the travelogue nature of the series, cable expressed more interest in the project.
Discovery ultimately made the most sense -- as the channel's hit "Deadliest Catch" is also shot in Palin Country. And Palin also happened to make a brief appearance on Discovery's 2008 doc "Toughest Race on Earth: Iditarod" -- shot before she became a household name.
Since losing her vice presidential campaign and resigning as Alaska's governor, Palin has worked as a commentator at Fox News and made numerous public appearances, including a speech at the conservative Tea Party convention. Palin even tried her hand as a stand-up comedian, cracking jokes with Jay Leno on "The Tonight Show."
