Tea Party Protest: Free Speech on a Stick

Sometimes, you can find out all you need to know about the issues at a rally by reading the protest signs.

At the April 15 tax day Tea Party demonstration in Washington's Freedom Plaza -- between the White House and Treasury Department to the west and the US Capitol to the east -- the fervor of the moment was reflected in multitude of signs, from the hand-scrawled to the professionally printed. A few bore clever illustrations. The Obama campaign logo made a great 'O' and the Communist hammer and sickle served nicely as a C; as always, the $ made a fine S. Only a handful of placards contained spelling errors. But all displayed the passions of the Tea Party movement. Herewith, a sampler.
