Joe the Plumber, who became a household name during Sen. John McCain's 2008 presidential campaign, has been elected to a Republican Party post in Ohio. During the '08 presidential race, Wurzelbacher was hailed by some Republicans as a symbol of middle-class America after he confronted Barack Obama about the Democrat's tax plan. His name was often invoked by McCain and his running mate Sarah Palin at campaign rallies.
Since the campaign, Wurzelbacher has written a book and delivered speeches at conservative events.
In February, Wurzelbacher turned against McCain, saying the former presidential candidate "was trying to use me."
