For pure chutzpah, it's hard to top BP CEO Tony Hayward. Discussing the Gulf oil spill that continues to wreak havoc on fisherman, Gulf state tourism, delicate ecosystems (etc., etc.) , Hayward told Fox News, "there's no one who wants this thing over more than I do." He went on: "Y'know, I'd like my life back."

An unfortunately choice of words, to be sure, but Hayward, whose remark was picked up by Talking Points Memo, may yet get his wish. The Irish bookie service Paddy Power is offering 6-to-4 odds that Hayward will be the first BP executive to lose his job because of the spill.

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. Please read our Help and Feedback section for more info.
