Over the weekend, in the midst of making an apology to Gulf Coast residents live from the Louisiana shore, BP CEO Tony Hayward complained to Fox News about the effect the oil spill was having on him as an individual.

"There's no one who wants this thing over more than I do, you know, I'd like my life back," Hayward said.

The sound bite proved to be utterly damning for the embattled executive, with pundits of all stripes leaping on what they perceived as Hayward's insensitivity and callous disregard for all the countless people whose livelihoods have been utterly ruined by BP's Gulf coast oil spill, to say nothing of the massive environmental devastation and damage to sea life.

Today, however, Hayward caved to the criticism and apologized anew for his remarks, via the BP America Facebook page.

In a short post made this afternoon, titled "BP CEO Tony Hayward Issues an Apology for Remarks," he wrote:
I made a hurtful and thoughtless comment on Sunday when I said that "I wanted my life back." When I read that recently, I was appalled. I apologize, especially to the families of the 11 men who lost their lives in this tragic accident. Those words don't represent how I feel about this tragedy, and certainly don't represent the hearts of the people of BP – many of whom live and work in the Gulf - who are doing everything they can to make things right. My first priority is doing all we can to restore the lives of the people of the Gulf region and their families – to restore their lives, not mine.
Below Hayward's post, in the unsurprisingly hostile comments section, BP America also wrote: "We'd like to take this opportunity to remind everyone of our Commenting Policy that can be found below and on our Facebook page...The conversations should be constructive, respectful, and contain language that is appropriate for all groups and ages. We reserve the right to disallow comments that are obscene, indecent, profane, or vulgar; contain threats or personal attacks of any kind."

We'll see how well that one goes over.

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. Please read our Help and Feedback section for more info.

Tell Tony Hayward that I would like the disposable income that big oil's greed took from myself over the last four years returned also.

How does a MEGA-company that was worth billions make such a huge mistake?

They became too complacent due to the lack of competition.
