President Obama will address the graduation class at Kalamazoo Central High School in Michigan on Monday, after the school won the "Race to the Top" challenge initiated by the Department of Education.

According to CNN, Kalamazoo Central has moved its commencement ceremony to the nearby West Michigan University to accommodate the crowd the president is expected to draw. Graduating seniors were given eight tickets, and no tickets were given to the general public.

"I congratulate our winner, Kalamazoo Central High School, and all of our six finalists for their innovative and effective approaches to teaching, learning and preparing students to graduate ready for college and a career," Obama said in a written statement in May.

Race to the Top contestants were asked to create a brief video and write short essays explaining how their school was answering Obama's call for the U.S. to have the highest proportion of college graduates in the world by 2020. The field was narrowed to six finalists, and then three (the others were schools in Denver and Cincinnati).

Kalamazoo's video showed students of different nationalities talking about their college plans in their native languages.

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. Please read our Help and Feedback section for more info.

Kalamazoo is very fortunate to be the beneficiary of a private-industry donor who has offered college scholarships to students who achieve.

Obama's campaign speech at commencement may or may not recognize the benefits and effects of private charity as opposed to Federal usurpation of control.

So as these graduates will move on with the premise that education is the focal point of prosperity and will make this nation stronger. What will they actually be contributing to society?? As this administration grows with a progressive agenda, what will happen to these thinkers, this new generation of tax payors?? Will they be taught that it is CAPITALISM'S fault for the debt they will be burdened with? That they will pay the price for THE NEWLY ATTAINED HOPE & CHANGE. That this country will have only one class of people and one GOVERNMENT!!!! Individual prosperity will no longer exist - I wonder how this new generation of taxpayors will feel about their newly acquired responsiblity.

Obama spends more time on speaking platforms than he does being a leader. Of course, we elected him on his speaking ability rather than qualifications.
