White House Correspondent
If there's anyone that everybody in America would less
like to be on Wednesday, June 23, than Gen. Stanley McChrystal, please raise your hand. In the morning, the president meets with his ill-spoken top commander in Afghanistan to presumably accept his resignation
(or give him the boot) for comments made
in an upcoming Rolling Stone profile
. Here's what's on deck:
9:45 a.m. -- Obama and McChrystal face-off. The president has said he has yet to make "final judgement
" -- this meeting will certainly result in a verdict.
11:35 a.m. -- The president meets with his national security team on Afghanistan and Pakistan in the Situation Room,
Expected attendees include a who's who of scorned co-workers named in Rolling Stone article: Vice President Joe Biden; National Security Adviser General James Jones; Ambassador Richard Holbrooke, special representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan; and Ambassador to Afghanistan Karl Eikenberry (via videoconference).
Other VVIPs expected include Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Secretary of the Treasury Timothy Geithner, Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice, Adm. Mike Mullen (chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff), CIA Director Leon Panetta and General David Petraeus of the U.S Central Command.
1:30 p.m. -- Obama makes an announcement regarding his decision on McChrystal.
2:50 p.m. -- The president and first lady attend the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Nutrition Event at Columbia Heights Educational Campus. No word on whether there will be punching bags crafted in the likeness of Stanley McChrystal.
4:30 p.m. -- Obama and Biden meet with Secretary of State Clinton in the Oval Office.
5 p.m. -- Obama meets with senior advisers in the Oval Office.
