Sixty-four percent said Obama was right to do what he did while 27 percent disagreed, with 10 percent undecided. The cost of this oil spill is unknown and it could easily reach into the trillions of dollars. BP scientists have no idea how to stop the oil well from leaking. By all appearances, the chairman of BP could care less if the leak is stopped.
I heard today that oil is washing ashore not only in the Gulf states but also as far north as Georgia and South Carolina. This oil is getting into our food chain and I can assure you it will affect each of us in the country in one way or another over a period of years. It may affect Europe, Asia, and Africa also.
There needs to be a thorough inventigation of the explosion and leak until all responsible are prosecuted to the fullest extent of law. This spill should be prosecuted as a crime against humanity. Charges need to be brought in whatever jurisdiction that has the harshest penalties.
Now how do you prosecute billionaires and not have to worry about prosecutors, law enforcement, judges, or politicians from being bought off and charges dropped?
Joe Barton apologized to BP saying that the president had no authority to force BP to create an escrow fund. Barton's critics use their big imaginations to believe that they heard Barton say that he was defending BP against blame for the incident. Smart people know this and won't let this issue sway them from voting the Democrats out in November.

There is no way a "sorry" to BP should cross anyone's lips. So what if it feels to some like a shakedown, BP SHOULD be uncomfortable and squirming right now. The President did what he felt was the best course of action in making the escrow fund to assure Gulf state residents that they will be compensated for BP's willful negligence and slow response. When it comes to the Gulf and BP, it's a matter of " You broke it, you bought it!"
Try to always remember, Republicans are for the rich! Dick Cheney, Haliburton.

His greatest duty to our country and to Texas would be to support the efforts toward cleanup, toward improving the lot of those who are suffering from BP's actions, and toward the environmental damage done. Joe Barton should be replaced NOW.
June 23 2010 at 6:11 PM Report abuse Permalink +10 rate up rate down Replyi do agree with his comments. let the legal system do its job. so far, it isn't like BP has said no to any of the costs. additionally, wait for the next US company that messes up overseas to get a similar shakedown...........
June 23 2010 at 5:37 PM Report abuse Permalink -8 rate up rate down ReplyYeah, those folks that BP ruined should have to wait years and years and years for relief in the courts!
June 23 2010 at 8:45 PM Report abuse Permalink +8 rate up rate down ReplyJoe Barton is entitled to his opinion. His subsequent retraction shows his true lack of character.
June 23 2010 at 5:03 PM Report abuse Permalink +1 rate up rate down ReplyJoe Barton is way out of touch with the American people. How could he possibly side with "big oil" and apologize to BP for President Obama's heroic act of requiring them to set up a 20 Billion dollar fund to aid the "little people", as BP likes to call them, who are loosing everything due to this disgusting situation that BP and their cohorts caused. Republicans should get rid of Barton once and fop all!
June 23 2010 at 3:49 PM Report abuse Permalink +9 rate up rate down ReplyI sure am getting tired of these APOLOGY TOURS, with the ' I misspoke' junk. You didn't misspeak, you told a flat-out LIE. How about manning up and saying what you mean, and mean what you say, and quit hiding under your desk. It's your opinion and nobody elses, say what you feel and accept the consequences, whether they are good or bad.
June 23 2010 at 3:48 PM Report abuse Permalink +2 rate up rate down Replyoh really...excuse me but I would certainly say that was much more than a goof.
