Splatter Michael Vick With Cake, Get Shot

Thank God for the New York Post. ESPN is still playing catch-up on the shooting that occurred outside NFL quarterback and ex-dog-torturing felon Michael Vick's 30th birthday party at a Virginia Beach nightclub. ESPN reports that the victim, Quanis Phillips, was "one of the co-defendants in the dogfighting case that landed Vick in federal prison for 18 months." Phillips was discharged from the hospital Friday, the same day he checked in. But those are all the details the self-described "worldwide leader" in sports provides.

So, we turn to the tabloids. According to the Post, Phillips crashed Vick's birthday party and was asked to leave, since part of Vick's probation is that he's not supposed to have contact with other convicted felons. Phillips was upset and "splattered" Vick's face with birthday cake. He then left the party, screaming obscenities, only to be shot in the parking lot. Vick is not a suspect and says he doesn't know who the shooter was, and while he'll likely face no renewed legal trouble, the NFL could still discipline him.

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. Please read our Help and Feedback section for more info.

Birds of a feather always flock together.
meaning Vick is what he is, and will never be any more, no matter how much he apoligizes for his past actions, he'll always ber on the wrong side of good.

Those who scream that Vick was unfairly and malicously persecuted, you are not seeing the facts clearly, stop playing the race card, give it a rest! Vick was given every break, every advantage, the county sheriff actively supressed boatloads of evidence, the sickening way the facts were withheld and covered up is now repeated - this is the most detailed reporting Ive seen so far about this very ominous new development in Mr.Vick's sad little saga.

Heatly,Roethlisberger et.al.never did sink to the new low of 'gangland' style gunplay in dark parkinglots, hmm?

Uh, you are judged by the comapny you keep.
None of my birthday parties ever ended up in anyone getting shot. Somehow, dressing for the party never involved "packing heat." I think this says alot about the TYPE of people involved--loser trash who need to prove themseleves by fighting dogs, carrying guns, and shouting obscenities.
Garbage in; garbage out.

For those of you who can not read please allow me to remind you that Vick has not been accused of shooting anyone! The disagreement started because he was trying to comply with the conditions of his probation. HE LEFT THE PARTY!

I noticed with all of the hate for Vick most of us have conveniently forgotten about Dany Heatley who KILLED Dan Snyder,a fellow teammate, while driving his Ferrari sports car in excess of 100 miles per hour on rain slick streets of Atlanta. Some say he had been drinking. The car struck a wall, splitting the car in half and ejecting him and his passenger. Heatley was charged with vehicular homicide. He admitted to drinking "some" prior to the incident, but his blood alcohol was below the legal limit in Georgia.

I also suspect you think that dog fighting is a more serious crime than rape! Ben Roethlisberger admitted to having sex with this young college student in the restroom with his security detail stopping anyone from entering the restroom. Why would a fully grown man hang around 18 year-old college students while providing them with free drinks?

I see a double standard here!

I wonder what it's going to take for sports-star-apologists to realize that Michael Vick is a violent man? Is he going to have to kill someone, like O.J. Simpson? His violent nature just keeps showing through, although that perhaps is what makes him so good in his profession. Aggression and testosterone overload are prime assets in a top sports professional.

here he is again at another place that he knows , will only look bad, these kind of people just do not have a clue of living their lives and try to do the right thing. they get big money and a chance to be soneone rich and famous, but they all screw it up and then blame everyone else.

J.M.

You must have read a different article than I did. He was celebrating his 30th birthday and the victim was an uninvited guest who was escorted out of the club (I didn't know clubs were illegal). Who knows if he didn't go outside and encounter someone else with whom he had problems and the end result was this shooting? I suspect you have some preconceived ideas about "certain" people.

Sure, J.M. ...and I suppose Pacman Jones had nothing to do with the shooting that wounded one bouncer and paralyzed another at that strip club in Las Vegas...that was certainly a coincidence, also. How convenient to have fate step in to do your dirty work. Just in case you haven't figured it out, that was sarcasm...get your head out of the sand and join the real world.

I guess the point I don't understand, is. he has been given a second chance. And, one would think it prudent to stay home, little celebration with friends, keep it low key.

The Feds could indict Vick(and probably should) under USC 922 for being a felon in possession of a firearm. Even if he didn't fire the shot, one of his close friends who was in Vick's physical presence did. This can easily be construed as being "Constructive Possession". The Feds use this charge often, very often.

Typical behavior. Sooooooo typical. The guy should be flipping burgers, not being paid millions. That money will only lead to more crime, guaranteed.
