Robert J. McKee, a Florida attorney, attempted to hire a scientist to work on an environmental lawsuit in Ecuador only to find that he had already gone to work for BP -- five days after the spill. "It was too late. He'd already been hired by the other side," McKee said. "If you aren't fast enough, you get beat to the punch."The only winners here will be the lawyers. As usual.

July 05 2010 at 10:43 PM Report abuse Permalink +2 rate up rate down ReplyFlorida Gov. Charlie Crist... So far about 250 lawsuits have been filed against BP, and a number of counties and communities are hiring lawyers. Judging by the aftermath of past spills, BP's legal battles could last a decade. BP WON'T LAST TO SEE THE END OF THIS YEAR.
July 05 2010 at 7:45 PM Report abuse Permalink -2 rate up rate down ReplyBP's lawyers could have turned Obama down when he demanded that 20 billion dollar escrow fund. BP realized the extent of their liability in the spill and chose to offer up the 20 billion dollar fund to avoid lengthy battles in court which would have led to even more damage over time. Was BP supposed to just put all their money and assets in a bowl and say "help yourself"? I am no fan of BP but I don't expect them to just lay down and die.
July 05 2010 at 7:16 PM Report abuse Permalink +2 rate up rate down ReplyBP is doing what professionals do. They are protecting their assests and their investors. Anyone disagreeing with their actions are very, very naive when it comes to business.
What, are they suppose to sit on their hands and wait to be bulldozed by everyone who's out to get them? Please, even a prudent individual businessman knows that they need to be prepared for litigation should it arise.
"these greed mongers" !! Hardly the case --
BP acted to protect its investors. People who have their retirement income invested in this company so I am very happy they acted quickly and legally.
Now just think how the Obama administration could have protected America if all the help offered by other countries from "day one" had been allowed!
Just think about how the Obama administration also blocked its own citizens from building berms and sending out skimmers to limit the oil spill damage!
There are those who would think this administration WANTED this spill to "get out of hand" for reasons we can only guess!
this isnt news to anyone who possesses at least three senses.money is the predicate for these greed mongers.not the families of the ones murdered, not the lives of the ones out of work or failed businesses,it is always about the bottom line and anyone defending these corporate outlaws needs to face the same music as what is in store for them!BP is spending obscene money on prime time ads which could be used to make the gulf residents whole again.

July 05 2010 at 11:21 AM Report abuse Permalink +7 rate up rate down ReplySo, you're suggesting that BP isn't entitled to present their own defense?
