RedState vs. NRA Feud Goes Public

As I recently wrote, the National Rifle Association has come under attack from conservatives who worry the gun group is selling out to liberals in exchange for special treatment.

Making matters worse, conservatives worry the NRA may be on the verge of endorsing Majority Leader Harry Reid for re-election to the U.S. Senate in Nevada.

Now, the feud has spilled over into mainstream news coverage. RedState's Erick Erickson has been one of the most vocal conservative critics of the NRA, and today's Politico quotes NRA chief lobbyist Chris Cox taking an apparent shot at Erickson by saying that "some people would like to use the Second Amendment to drive eyes to a blog."

Asked for a comment on the snub, Erickson e-mailed me, saying: "I'd just say that some people would like to use the NRA to defend the Second Amendment, but too few of them work at the NRA."

It is interesting to see what is arguably the top conservative blog in America engaged in a very public dispute with what is arguably the most effective conservative lobbying organization.

If the NRA does endorse Reid, look for a major backlash to occur . . .

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. Please read our Help and Feedback section for more info.

No matter how far the left may spin this article..It is impossible for the nra to vote for any democrat..as these are the same people they have fought for years to preserve gun-rights..As a member rest assured..this is pure spin..

If you had a choice between a women who says you should use chickens to pay for heath care, and a man who is one of the most powerful Senators in the Senate, who can bring home the bacon, building the first VA clinic in Las Vegas, what's to think about? You have the lowest taxes in the Nation but your income comes from gambling. Think about that while your dealing those cards.

Let's have sensible gun control laws. Register guns like cars and license gun owners like drivers. Universal background checks even at gun shows. Sometimes Harry Reid is too pro NRA but he has been an excellent senator.

I know lots of gun owners who would never vote red. I'm one of them. Firearm rights are a universal concern in this country.

now would be the perfect time for the nra to disavow itself from the radicals of the republican party.the gop has used the nra since its inception to try to intimidate gun owners that the democratic party wants to take away their guns, which anyone with a two digit IQ can see right through!
