As I recently wrote, the National Rifle Association has come under attack from conservatives who worry the gun group is selling out to liberals in exchange for special treatment.

Making matters worse, conservatives worry the NRA may be on the verge of endorsing Majority Leader Harry Reid for re-election to the U.S. Senate in Nevada.

Now, the feud has spilled over into mainstream news coverage. RedState's Erick Erickson has been one of the most vocal conservative critics of the NRA, and today's Politico quotes NRA chief lobbyist Chris Cox taking an apparent shot at Erickson by saying that "some people would like to use the Second Amendment to drive eyes to a blog."

Asked for a comment on the snub, Erickson e-mailed me, saying: "I'd just say that some people would like to use the NRA to defend the Second Amendment, but too few of them work at the NRA."

It is interesting to see what is arguably the top conservative blog in America engaged in a very public dispute with what is arguably the most effective conservative lobbying organization.

If the NRA does endorse Reid, look for a major backlash to occur . . .
