Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston: They're Engaged

They're a couple again. Sarah Palin daughter's Bristol and Levi Johnston, the father of their 18-month-old son, say they are engaged after an awkward and often ugly breakup. And they haven't told their parents yet.

Bristol Palin, featured (with Johnston) on the cover of Us Weekly holding son Tripp, told the magazine the thought of telling her mom -- the 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate -- was "intimidating and scary." They hope to marry later this summer in Alaska.

Sarah Palin and her husband, Todd, issued a statement to NBC's "Today" show Tuesday saying that they want what's best for their children and that Bristol believes in "redemption and forgiveness."

Johnston recently apologized to the Palins for critical things he said about them during the breakup that he now says were untrue. The couple apparently reconnected while working out a custody plan for Tripp.

"I really thought we were over," Levi told the magazine -- which had an exclusive arrangement with the couple -- of the custody meeting. "So when I went, I had no hope. I think we both just started talking -- and then we took Tripp for a walk."

Added Bristol, "When he left that night, we didn't hug or kiss, but I was thinking how different it was. He texted me: 'I miss you. I love you. I want to be with you again.' . . . I was in shock."

Johnston may have a tough time making himself welcome in the Palin family. Last fall he took numerous well-publicized swipes at his future mother-in-law, claiming she had called her infant son Trig (who has Down syndrome) "retarded." The former Alaska governor responded that anyone who posed for Playgirl – as Levi had done -- would "say and do anything for even more attention." In an interview with Oprah Winfrey, she dubbed him "Ricky Hollywood" and called his "aspiring porn" career "heartbreaking."

mamma grizzlie needs to stay out of their business...they might have been married already had she not thrown them into the spotlight back in 08.
I wish them the best of luck...they make for a very handsome family. I just hope that they will continue with their education and get real jobs instead of relying on sensationalism/headlines relating to their life. Get out of public eye until they get their life and priorities in order.

Bristol looks right, and the baby looks right. Levi needs to get saved and get a hold of God in his life. He needs to forget about fooling around, and get his life headed in the right direction if he is going to make that kind of commitment. I wish the best to them, and hope they stay together and work everything out. God Bless.
