On
today's podcast we are joined by
Arthur Brooks, author of "The Battle: How the Fight Between Free Enterprise and Big Government Will Shape America's Future."
Brooks, an economist and social scientist who currently serves as president of the American Enterprise Institute (AEI), argues that free-market advocates have failed to make the moral case for free enterprise. According to Brooks, free marketers should quit talking about money and start making the moral case for their economic beliefs.
As Brooks tells us, statistical evidence shows that free enterprise is the best way for people to feel they have
earned their success.
Brooks notes that once a person's basic needs have been met, it is not money -- but
earned success -- that brings joy. Thus, he argues that winning the lottery, receiving welfare, or inheriting money will not bring one happiness.
