Poll: Obama Losing to Romney, Huck & Newt (but Tied With Palin)

A new survey out from Public Policy Polling should give Republicans hope they can defeat President Obama in 2012.

According to the poll, Obama "trails Mitt Romney 46-43, Mike Huckabee 47-45, Newt Gingrich 46-45, and is even tied with Sarah Palin at 46. The only person tested he leads is Jan Brewer, who doesn't have particularly high name recognition on the national level at this point."

Analysis suggests these Republican candidates are polling ahead of Obama because they "lead within independents in every match-up" and because their party is unified around them "to an equal or even greater extent than Democrats are around Obama."

While it is too early for Republicans to take these numbers too seriously, results such as this do have consequences. If Republicans (who are already considering whether to run) honestly believe they have a shot at ousting Obama, expect to see more top-tier challengers emerge.

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. Please read our Help and Feedback section for more info.

Hard to believe the republican platform of tax cuts for the wealthy, kill social security and medicare and more middle east wars will play in 2012.

I found it very sad the lack of education the majority of Americans have. Our recession is due to the Bush policies yet the majority is wanting to hand the key back to them. President Obama is doing an incredible job considering what he came in with. Wake up PEOPLE!

Do not make the mistake of underestimating the American people. They are slow to take action but when they do they are very informed and decisive. Bush bashing has become a way of life for the democrats but it may well become their destruction. A person who runs for President is asking for the responsibility to fix all the problems that exist. His or she is not inheriting anything, it is being asked for. Sooner or later every President has to step up and say as Harry Truman did, "The buck stops here.", and mean it.

Yeah, right! When all is said and done and Americans are shown how much this president actually has accomplished, there will be no competition. Right now, the people are just confused about everything. Distorted facts, innuendo and propaganda have been the rule of the day. I think some are forgetting how brilliant Obama is when it comes to campaigning. Remember, he didn't have a chance against H. Clinton, did he? Besides, you really think Hispanics will be running out and voting for any Republican - wishful thinking but clearly misguided.
