AOL News has a new home! The Huffington Post.
Click here to visit the new home of Politics Daily! Here's the video:"The whole key to this story is that Andrew Breitbart was set up. He was sent a tape that, as we now know, was massively out of context. It did look like this woman was saying something racist. When she first said it was taken out of context . . . we've heard that before from politicians telling racist jokes. This is the first time in world history it was literally taken out of context.
"It was a lovely speech. Of course the White House reacted that way -- of course you reacted the way you did. Anyone would have. I think Breitbart ought to reveal his source, because he was set up. This was a fraud. The person who sent the edited tape has to know what the full speech said, and whomever sent only that segment to Andrew Breitbart is the one who should apologize to Shirley Sherrod.
Set up or not all Andrew Breitbart had to do was call Ms Sharrod and ask her for her side of the story. It's been years since I watched All the President's Men but one thing has always stuck. You need at least two sources before you break the story. He didn't verify the story and everybody, and I mean everybody, stepped in the barnyard leavings.
I have to admire Glenn Beck for calling for Ms Sharrod's reinstatement as soon as he knew the whole story.
Ya know...I'm a white farmer that tried to get a loan from the Govt 20 years ago. Makes you wonder if I didnt get the loan 'cause I'm not the right color. Hard to believe I know, but what if.....???
July 24 2010 at 4:40 PM Report abuse Permalink -1 rate up rate down ReplyThis is still a case of lazy journalism: Breitbart did not do due diligence; nor did the NAACP, nor any of the other entities who shot off their mouths, including the White House. My question: this was an NAACP dinner speech. Who shot the video in the first place? Who controlled the video over time? Who could have edited it? Find that out and we would have some answers. Maybe Ms. Sherrod's lawyers will get those answers.

July 22 2010 at 11:02 PM Report abuse Permalink -4 rate up rate down ReplyLets get the facts straight people:
FACT #1) Mrs. Sherrod herself said that someone at the White House said she should resign as it would be on Glen Beck that night.
FACT @2) It was NOT on Glen Beck that night.
FACT #3) It was on Glen Beck the NEXT NIGHT but Glen Beck supported her and condemned what was done to her.
FACT #4) It WAS NOT on Fox News until AFTER she had been asked to resign.
FACT #5) Some of you people are doing exactly the same thing that you are accusing
Fox News of doing. You are NOT getting your facts correct and you are taking the words of other people to form your opinion. Why not do your own research and find out the real facts.
The NAACP and the White House are the ones to spit at. Talk about jumping to conclusions and being misinformed. Kind of reminds me of the beer summit. Some people in the White House need to engage brain before running mouth.... are you lestening Mr. Obama???????
That is exactly how it happened. Well said.
July 22 2010 at 9:57 PM Report abuse Permalink +7 rate up rate down ReplyShirley Sherrod did show a bit of racism in her whole speech, but did make a great gesture at the end. Saying that she should not focus on skin color. I think what people are missing is the fact that the people of the NAACP, who were the audience, cheered on as Shirley started telling her story. They had no idea she was talking about unity. They just saw it as a woman "not giving the farmer her full capacity". That was sad. These people reveled in the fact that a white person being discriminated against.
Slick
Aren't reporters supposed to have a solid backup for what they report? Did he do any checking at all?
July 22 2010 at 6:44 PM Report abuse Permalink -1 rate up rate down ReplyAs the bumper sticker says, "American by choice, Southern by the Grace of God". I love the region, appreciate all the people and even more appreciate that we have come so far through the efforts of individuals like Shirley Sherrod to address racism. Her choice of words left to much room for misinterpretation but her message was to the point and from the heart. I can only hope that Andrew Breitbart's misguided attacks will reveal the the racism that exist in all regions of our country...it's not just a southern thing, my friends, and never was...it is an American thing and once we accept that every town, city, county and state harbors their own particular prejudices we can stop pointing fingers and get back to the enormous rebuilding job we inherited from the Bush 43. Perhaps we have reached that tipping point!

July 22 2010 at 5:00 PM Report abuse Permalink -9 rate up rate down ReplyWhat torques me off the most is this woman LOST HER JOB over political hyperbole!!! There's something inherintently wrong with a FREE COUNTRY when your WORDS are used AGAINST YOU!! This was a CLEAR violation of the First Amendment, whereby, it's not against the law to be RACIST, nor is it against the law to say racist things...it's only against the law whn you actively DISCRIMINATE AGAINST SOMEONE BASED ON RACE! She clearly did not, in fact, she apparently went above and beyond to help someone who didn't want her help!!! Geesh, this country really needs to re-evaluate itself and stop acting so politically incorrect all the time.
