Then again, it's almost as if the Obama administration sucker-punched itself. That's the take of Harvard government professor David Gergen, who worked for four presidents (three Republicans and one Democrat, Bill Clinton). To Gergen, Sherrod's firing illustrates how toxic our nation's civic discourse had become. "This has ripped away the veil and shown us all that is wrong with politics today," Gergen told CNN's Anderson Cooper. "An ideologue injects poison into the Internet, other people rush to judgment on camera, and an administration gets stampeded and commits this travesty of justice."More Shirley Sherrod Coverage:

I am a serious conservative and I think Sherrod should be reinstated at least until due process has run its course. I take no joy in observing the knee-jerk demand for her resignation before any fact-finding or fair hearing of the circumstances of her situation.
I do not condone racist discrimination in the delivery of any government service. Is this what we can look forward to in national health care?
To the folks who want to keep blaming Fox News etc. on Shirleys firing, your are all wrong. Please ask any lawyer, human resourse rep etc. about the steps to take before firing an employee. The White House and the Agriculture Secretary step in dog crap bigtime on this one. You invesigate, collect facts, interview the employee and if the standards are met ? you FIRE the person. End of story ladies and gentlemen,Obama and the NAACP screwed up!!!! not Fox News or any media outlet.

If you live in a Red "right to slave state" like Florida unless you have a work contract you are considered "at will" that means thanks to our right wing friends you can be fired for any or no reason. That's what the GOP etc..is offering nice huh? What you are pushing is what happens in a civilized Blue state.
July 22 2010 at 6:18 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyBut what about the behavior of the members in the audience before they realized she was had changed her own behavior. They were nodding and smiling as she told about denying the white guy full service. They were overtly displaying racist behavior. Has no one else mentioned this. Watch the tape and see them, the guy behind her especially .

July 21 2010 at 5:50 PM Report abuse Permalink -1 rate up rate down ReplySome have said that the NAACP was "snookered' by Fox News into calling for the firing of Ms Sherrod.
It looks the NAACP STILL can't get its facts straight.
Fox News reported the story only AFTER she was fired...and didn't Beck defend her after hearing HER side of the story?
The NAACP condemned her as racist..before getting all the facts...and since the NAACP had access to the complete video of Sherrod's comments, that the Big Government web site did NOT have access to, that is the NAACP's fault and its ault alone.
Given the NAACP's recent attempt to brand the Tea party as racist..that is no surprise.
They couldn't get their facts straight there either.
Odd that's not what the Fox News Website says.... It was a good try but you have to make things up FOR the Fox audience everyone else checks.
July 21 2010 at 5:43 PM Report abuse Permalink +1 rate up rate down ReplySo far the cheerleading scorecard for Fox is 6k Americans dead while endlessly blasting out false information about " finds" in Iraq. One community organization (acorn) closed because of lies ( you know the worker and the underage girls story? Fox forgot to say the guy called the cops as soon as they left and turned over the info). They video was as edited a pack of lies as this new one is. The new victim of the same technique? A lady growing up in the racist south during the 60's and 70"s ( don't bother responding I lived thru it) and had to come to terms with her feelings and do the right thing. WHICH SHE DID. Ask the farmers. I am not sure how they sleep over there at Fox but if I were them I would be praying there is no God.
July 21 2010 at 5:05 PM Report abuse Permalink -7 rate up rate down ReplyMy comments have not been posted I guess its easier to perpetuate lies. Fox did not report on this story until AFTER she was fired.
July 21 2010 at 4:58 PM Report abuse Permalink +4 rate up rate down ReplyNot true. Bill O'Reilly called for her resignation on his show monday night.
July 21 2010 at 5:25 PM Report abuse Permalink -1 rate up rate down Replyoh shirley covered up good what she said. but we know what she meant.
July 21 2010 at 4:51 PM Report abuse Permalink -3 rate up rate down ReplyFOX NEWS really did a hatchet job on Ms. Sherrod by airing those edited tapes without vetting them properly. The extreme right wing agenda on FOX NEWS is becoming very reckless.
July 21 2010 at 4:49 PM Report abuse Permalink -5 rate up rate down ReplyI personally find it quite refreshing to have a President in the White House who has an administration that can admit to mistakes. Especially after an administration and president that couldn't think of a single mistake when questioned.
July 21 2010 at 4:37 PM Report abuse Permalink -7 rate up rate down ReplyI would absolutely sue the crap out of Faux news and the Tea Party/Breitbart for libel/slander and anything else a high end attorney would go for. Faux news should also be fined by the FCC for media hype, and falsely reporting non investigated information to further their own agenda. Yes there is a first amendment but it stops when someone falsely yells "Fire". If Faux news would ever commit to real investigative reporting instead of agenda hype I might have a sliver of respect.
July 21 2010 at 4:05 PM Report abuse Permalink -11 rate up rate down ReplyPerhaps FOX can come up with some "Forged but True" documents as CBS did, eh?
July 21 2010 at 4:19 PM Report abuse Permalink -5 rate up rate down ReplyWhat would a "low end" attorney go for?
