"For the last 18 months we have really focused on trying to address the longstanding history of civil rights claims against the Department [of Agriculture]. They are outstanding claims brought by black farmers, Hispanic farmers, women farmers, Native American farmers. And these are not just a few incidences, or a few isolated claims. These are tens of thousands of claims. I made it a goal that we would try to reverse that history, we would try to close that chapter, [and that we] would not tolerate in any way, shape or form discrimination. I still hold that belief very firmly."More Shirley Sherrod Coverage:

July 22 2010 at 6:51 PM Report abuse Permalink +1 rate up rate down ReplyDo you really believe vilsack when he said white house had nothing to do with firing, ask Sherrod what under secretary of usda cheryl cook said to her.
July 22 2010 at 6:41 PM Report abuse Permalink +2 rate up rate down ReplyThis is not about Shirley Sherrod, it is about the incompetency of the government to rush to judgment without a full investigation. Now we the taxpayers are going to pay a millionaire prize to compensate Shirley for all her suffering. Shame on the white house and the director Vilsack. We must ask for Mr. Vilsack to step down and quit or maybe the President must fire him.
July 22 2010 at 6:03 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyJust more proof that this president lacks the experience necessary to be president.
July 22 2010 at 5:24 PM Report abuse Permalink +3 rate up rate down ReplyWhile I have no stomach for racism of any stripe, what ever happened to due process in the Sharrod case?
This administration looks like an arrogant yet scared bunch of cowboys, shooting so fast they're blowing their toes off.
QUOTE Tom Vilsack "...we have really focused on trying to address the longstanding history of civil rights claims against the Department...claims brought by black farmers, Hispanic farmers, women farmers, Native American farmers...I made it a goal that we would try to reverse that history, we would try to close that chapter, [and that we] would not tolerate in any way, shape or form discrimination". Another show of sheer and utter ignorance of the truth and knee-jerking from the current administration. Guess Obama's "beer party" won't be good enough for Sherrod, so now to woo her back, they'll give her an even BIGGER job for an even BIGGER paycheck. Pathetically inept for a government that wants to take over and run every aspect of our lives.
