GOP's Roy Blunt Leads Robin Carnahan in Missouri Senate Race

Republican Rep. Roy Blunt is leading Democrat Robin Carnahan by 48 percent to 42 percent with 10 percent undecided in their race to fill the Senate seat being vacated by the GOP's Kit Bond, according to a Mason-Dixon Research poll conducted July 19-21 for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and KMOV-TV. The margin of error is 4 points.

Blunt leads among white voters by 50 percent to 37 percent, while Carnahan gets the support of 90 percent of blacks.

Blunt is seen favorably by a 39 percent to 23 percent margin, but despite his seven terms in the House, including a short tour as Majority Leader, 37 percent do not have an opinion of him. Carnahan is seen favorably by 39 percent and unfavorably by 38 percent with 23 percent offering no opinion.

The Post-Dispatch also reports Blunt with the advantage when it comes to his campaign warchest. He raised $2.2 million in the year's second quarter to Carnahan's $1.55 million. Blunt has $4.53 million cash on hand and Carnahan has $3.63 million.
